A Whole World Between

I had my camera with me at the Farmer’s Market in Corvallis, Oregon, when I stumbled upon this scene. An older man, sitting on a bench near the Willamette River right behind the trees in the background), enjoying a summer’s day, while appearing to be looking at and seeing nothing in particular.

I was struck at the space between the two, as I know many people that would prefer to sit somewhere yards away rather than share a bench with a stranger, and so it seemed here. Except for, as I captured here, it appears that the young musician is glancing toward her audience, knowing that music can travel the distance between others.
